The clinical assessment consists of 14 tasks in a circuit, with each task corresponding to one of the 14 modules in the syllabus.
Each task has a total time of 12 minutes, including 2 minutes of initial reading time.
Domains include Patient Safety, Communication with Patients and Their Relatives, Communication with Colleagues, Information Gathering, and Applied Clinical Knowledge.
Clinical Examiners are present on all 14 tasks, and Lay Examiners participate in four tasks focusing on communication, patient safety, and information gathering from the patient's perspective.
Tasks involve simulated patient/colleague interactions with trained actors and structured discussions with clinical examiners.
Marks are divided into simulated patient/colleague tasks and structured discussion tasks, each with clinical examiners.
Candidates must have successfully passed the MRCOG-2 examination and have at least 4 years of clinical experience.
AoT is a prerequisite for MRCOG Part 3. Apply for AoT after passing MRCOG Part 1, and applications must be approved before applying for the Part 3 exam.
Route A (UK Specialist Training Programme): •tIn intermediate training at ST3 level or above at AoT application. •tSubmission of AoT application with National Training Number. •tNo additional documentation required initially. Route B (Non-UK Specialist Training Programme): •tMinimum 4 years in obstetrics and gynaecology posts (full-time or equivalent) in the UK or overseas. •tIncludes at least 2 years in the specialty within the last 4 years. •tRequires a minimum of 6 consecutive months in a single post. •tAll hospital-based overseas posts in O&G accepted. •tTraining must be completed at AoT application. •tFlexible training in recognized posts allowed with College approval. •tTraining before Part 1 MRCOG can be counted under Route B.
